  3. Disclaimer • During this training, I will be going over a variety of websites and technology that are used here at Leitch and that can be used at home as well. However, how each website and piece of technology is used varies by teacher. For more information about specific classroom usage of each website, please check with your child’s teacher. • This is not an exhaustive list of sites and technology that may be used here at Leitch. • As we use IPads here at Leitch, when we indicate there is an app, it refers to an IOS app (for IPads). • We do not control these websites and sometimes things happen that may be out of our control.

Internet Safety for Kids • Make sure you do not share personal information on the internet (full name, pictures, birth date, address, and phone numbers) • Tell an adult if something makes you feel uncomfortable • Check with an adult before you download and install something • Be a good citizen online (if you wouldn’t say something in person, don’t say/type it online) • Establish rules for when and where the child uses technology • Make sure you know what you child is doing online

  6. Computer Lab Sign In cards If you need a new copy of your child’s log in card, please contact Ms. Comendant or your child’s teacher Once a replacement card is requested, you should receive it in about a week.

Google Apps and Google Classroom • May be called GAFE (Google Apps for Education) • It is a version of Google Drive specifically for schools. • Google Classroom is the management piece for the individual teachers. • All students in Fremont Unified have an account (Grades K – 12) • Many of the user names and passwords for other websites are based on this log in information. • While the user name may look like an email address, there isn’t an email account connected to it. • Google Apps provide online access to word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. This allows work to be started in class and then continued at home.

  11. Typing for 2nd Grade • Dance Mat Typing • http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing (no user name or password) • Provides opportunities for the students to learn how to properly type • This includes location of the keys and proper finger placement • Recommended by the school district

  13. Lexia (Core 5) • http://www.lexiacore5.com/ • Lexia is a levelled reading program that can be used by all of our students (grades K – 2). It covers phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. • There is a username and password that is provided on the sign in card. • There is an IPad app for this program.

Education City • https://ec2.educationcity.com/ • Education City is a program that covers a variety of skills in reading, writing, science, and math and can be used with all of our students (grades K – 2). • There is a username and password that is provided on the sign in card. • There is NO app for this program.

  17. Splash Math • www.splashmath.com • Splash Math is a math program that provides practice for Common Core math skills (grade 1). • There is a username and password that is provided on the sign in card (1st grade only). • There is an IPad app for this program (it is a paid app).

  19. Ten Marks • www.tenmarks.com/ • Ten Marks is a math program that provides practice for math skills (2nd Grade). • There is a username and password that is provided on the sign in card (2nd grade). • There is anapp for this program.

  21. Encyclopedia Britannica • http://school.eb.com/ • Online encyclopedia access provided by the school district • May be used for research projects and writing assignments • Same user name and password for all students • Username : fremont • Password: student

Leitch Website • http://www.fremont.k12.ca.us/Domain/1062 • Can also be accessed through the district website. • Provides news, information, and links both from the school and the school district. • Registration Information (i.e. timelines) will be posted on this website. • A copy of this presentation will also be located on this site. • In the event of a school emergency, information will be posted on this site.

Peachjar • Flyers sent via email • Flyers can be from the school (such as newsletters), district, and outside sources • Provided for all schools in the school district. • Flyers can also be accessed via the school’s website. • If you are not receiving these flyers, please check your spam folder.

Sangha • An app that provides notifications about upcoming school events on your smartphone. • It also provides a calendar of events. • You have to sign up to receive notifications each year. • If you signed up last year, you have to sign up again this year. • Once you have signed up, download the app and enter the email you registered with. It should automatically connect.

California Assessment of student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) • This is the state test given sometime in the spring to all California students in 3rd grade and up. • We are not giving it to any students here this year because we do not have any third graders • The test is based on the California State Standards (Common Core State Standards). • Many of things we do here at Leitch will help prepare the students for the CAASPP, but that is not their sole purpose. • Some classes may be taking other tests online in some form or another.
