  1. Engine Removal Scott Salisbury PHS AUTO

  2. Mark (scribe) around hood hinges remove hood • Clean engine Steam or pressure wash if possible • drain antifreeze put into containers for future use or disposal • remove upper and lower radiator hoses

  3. disconnect heater hoses • Drain the oil • remove fan, fan shroud and radiator • remove the throttle cable • disconnect the battery

  4. relieve pressure and disconnect fuel lines and plug them • remove distributor and wires if necessary remove spark plugs • disconnect exhaust manifold sometimes you must remove them • tag all wires and vacuum hoses then remove them to the side of the engine

  5. unbolt motor and transmission mounts, shifter linkage and or cooler lines • if unbolting from a automatic transmission remove the torque converter bolts then the bolts to the bell housing • make sure that the transmission is separated from the engine sometimes a plate is in between that has several small bolts holding it to the transmission

  6. if FWD make sure that the transmission is properly supported • if A/C or power steering equipped set the units to the one side so you do not have to take the lines apart. • If RWD support transmission with a floor jack

  7. Remove engine slowly make sure your have undone every thing • you will have to move the engine forward while raising it on RWD cars • If you can, take pictures of the car before you take it apart • Use common sense and think about what you are doing

  8. The end • Not all info is here just a rough draft I have come up with while removing engines please look up the proper procedure in the repair manuals
