  1. Depression Strikes Teenagers Causing Suicides By: Alex Espinoza

What is happening? • Adults don’t realize the amount of pressure teens receive. • Teens can become depressed for being molested in school or outside of school. • Teen suicide has increased massively in the past couple years throughout the United States. • Students are under increased pressures related to school performance, getting into a prestigious college, and being the best at everything they do.

  3. Where? • In many schools around the U.S school administrators and teachers ignore student requests until a parent calls the school. • Teens are often worried about school exams and over 5 hours of homework due the next day. • These certain events take place at the two main places teenagers spend most of their day, which are school and home. • Boarding schools can really affect a child(teen) and make them feel cut off from their basic support group which is family and friends back home.

  4. What can be done? • School programs should include teaching teens basic life skills that can be applied today and prepare students for their future. • Adults need to realize the amount of pressure and stress their sons or daughters are undergoing is an injustice. • Increase the amount of communication in the house will make a difference in a family. • Look for solutions as a community fighting for one main cause that is taking away their future generations.

Fast Facts • In today’s society there has been a large increase in teenage suicide, and a major cause of this phenomenon has been stress along with pressure. • In 2001, Teen suicide rates were about 10.7, which is 100,000 teens that committed suicide. • The conflicts are increasing in the outside world, but do parents really want their young ones to undergo this pressure?
