  1. Views from Technical Coordination Ferdinand Hahn Straw Workshop / Dubna

  2. Overview • The Straw Tracker • Straw Tracker TD • Achievements /Challenges (My View) • Boundary conditions • Key Factors to be addressed in the workshop (My View) • Closing Remarks Straw Workshop / Dubna

  3. STRAW Tracker TD • The TD has received high attention in the last SPSC. • The Straw Tracker has accumulated some delay and this was justified. However, it is now the time to catch up this delay. • My proposal: target revised draft for April 2010. Straw Workshop / Dubna

  4. The Straw Tracker is en exceptional asset for NA62 Detector Requirements Detector Performance Kinematical rejection relies on: p - Momentum resolution σ(P)/P = 0.33% p - Angular resolution : 10μrad (@10GeV) to 20 μrad (@60GeV) Decay Vertex Extrapolation σ(CDA)≈ 1mm • Ultra light (0.2% of X0 per layer) (no beam windows and no surrounding gas) • High accuracy (130mm per View) • High efficiency • Need low noise environment to avoid ghost tracks The Straw Tracker is a premium device and crucial for the experiment. Straw Workshop / Dubna

  5. Straw Chamber Development My View Achievements Challenges Relate welding parameters to joint stability and penetration to exclude ruptures. Optimize coating + joint (target factor 3 improved leak rate) Optimize and match with final electronics. X-check ageing. Detailed design optimisation: Get facts->choose best • Straw assembly technique (welding) is established. QC parameters are proposed. • Straw permeation and leaks (upper limit 1.0 mbar cm3/min) • Chamber performance parameters shown fully satisfactory in test beam. • Chamber Design + Geometry/ accuracy achieved in prototype . Congratulation ! Congratulation ! Top Priority Straw Parameter (welding, materials, permeation,... Straw Workshop / Dubna

  6. Boundary Conditions • NA62 Schedule: -> Commissioning Run June 2012 • Resources: • New Fellow starting in April 2010. • New Technical Student (electronics) starting ? • Target: optimal efficiency and optimal work-share • Joint Project between Dubna and CERN • Define suitable share of construction work Straw Workshop / Dubna

  7. ECN3 Installation Planning preliminary Straw Workshop / Dubna

  8. Key Factors to be addressed in the workshop My View • Design optimisation: • Analyse outcome from Design Review • Priorities problems and actions • Define action plan with clear deadlines and responsibilies. • Agree on one solution (The best one!) • Decide Who does What: • Define WP distribution + assign responsibilities • The WP distribution has to be match with the resources available (optimize the sharing). • Transfer the expertise and knowledge where needed. • No re-development... • Focus on Teamwork Straw Workshop / Dubna

  9. Enjoy Dubna ! • The work shop is an excellent initiative. • The solutions are within the range of vision • Let’s work out the plan.... Straw Workshop / Dubna
