  1. THE IMPORTANCE OF VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS IN INDIA Despite commendable economic growth in the past two decades, it is not a secret that India has a long way to go. Various factors like unemployment, low education levels, high dropout rates, and lack of vocational training have stagnated employment opportunities. The shortage of skilled labor that is prepared and the employability ratio is also a worrisome facet of the job sector of India. Currently, only 10 percent of the Indian youth population has proper vocational training. The 11th Five Year Plan of India explicitly recognized the significance of vocational training, and the Prime Minister’s National Council for Skill Development along with National Skill Development Coordination Board and the National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) was established. Furthermore, the 12th Five Year Programme lays down strategies to improve Skill Development Programs at the state and national level in the country. The significance of vocational development can be summed as the difference between theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge. Non-vocational courses are theory-based, which despite being critical, is not enough for people to attain gainful employment in the contemporary technology-driven world. Vocational pathways imbibe hands-on practical skills among students that they can use to transition to an actual job. In other words, vocational training enables students to physically operate the equipment of a job and become valuable employees immediately.

As such, businesses and companies spend a considerable amount of money to bring new employees and train them in relevant skills. Vocational training helps bridge the gap between work and education. So, vocational training provides an edge to a candidate and their chances of getting hired multiply. Employers begin to feel confident that the candidates they receive from a quality vocational school already have the experience and competency to start work right away. Building Strong Networks and Connections - It is undeniable that we cannot ignore the importance of a solid network to find employment immediately after graduating. Connections and relationships can facilitate in finding new jobs and may also help in job upgradation. Through vocational education, students have an excellent opportunity to build a robust network that will enhance their learning experience and foster their professional work. With job-focused training and knowledge, students are more in-tuned with their trainers and teachers, thereby enriching their circle of acquaintances.
