  1. What's Naturopathic Medicine and How it is Different from Holistic Medicines

  2. Brought to the United States from Germany, during the 1800s, naturopathic medicine includes therapies and remedies that are meant to heal the body naturally, with the help of nature.

  3. Its main intension is to focus on the root cause of the illness and then helping the body to bring out its innate properties to heal on its own.

  4. Unlike surgery or chemotherapy, naturopathic solutions are non-invasive and are defined as the “healing power of nature”. However, in certain states and locations, a naturopath can carry out minor surgeries.

  5. Difference between Naturopathic Medicine and Holistic Medicines: 1. Naturopathic medicine is an entirely separate discipline of medicine where the practitioner is trained to cure the root cause of a disease with the help of natural remedies.

  6. On the other hand, holistic medicine is practiced by professionals who are trained with conventional medicines and bears a holistic philosophy centering on mind-body-spirit.

  7. 2. While naturopathy involves mainly natural remedies and therapies such as herbs, acupuncture, massage, exercises and etc. to restore health; holistic medicine includes conventional medicines along with functional, alternative, and naturopathic medicine to achieve holistic health.

  8. 3. Patients who prefers alternatives to conventional medicine will find solace with naturopathic medicine as it is a complete different process of “nature care” with focus on natural interventions.

  9. This might not be the case with holistic medicine as it also includes conventional medicines along with other forms of treatment.

  10. 4. Naturopathic medicine can be used to treat the following – • Allergies • Headaches • Fertility Issues • Digestive Problems • Obesity • Hormonal Imbalances • Chronic Pain • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome etc.

  11. Holistic medicine is used to treat the following – • Migraines • Sleep Irregularities • Personal Problems • Stress • Other imbalances in the body

  12. 5. Naturopathic medicine is based on the following principles – • Do No Harm • The Healing Power of Nature • Identify and Treat the Causes • Doctor as Teacher • Treat the Whole Person • Prevention

  13. Holistic medicine is based on the following ideologies – • Every individual has a self-healing power from nature • A patient is a person, not a disease • Disease/s can be healed with team approaches

  14. To heal completely, all aspects of the patient’s life needs to be addressed. • Successful treatment means curing the illness with its root and not simple to ease the symptoms.

  15. Thus it can be noticed that, although, there are a lot of overlaps between holistic and naturopathic medicine, still both of them are different in their own ways.

  16. However choosing the best healthcare is completely an individual choice, depending on the symptoms and preferences.
