This blog breaks down the eligibility criteria for some of the most important pharmacy licensure exams in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries: Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Saudi Pharmacist Licensure Examination (SPLE) To sit for the SPLE in Saudi Arabia, candidates must meet the following criteria: ●Degree Requirements: Hold a PharmD degree. ●Experience: At least one year of experience in either hospital or retail pharmacy settings. ●Registration: Must be registered as a pharmacist in any country, including Saudi Arabia. Oman Prometric Exam (OPE) For the Oman Prometric Exam, candidates need to meet these requirements: ●Degree Requirements: Hold a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), or Master of Pharmacy (MPharm). ●Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy, with no gaps in work history. ●Registration: Registration as a pharmacist in the home country is essential. Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners Exam (QCHP) In Qatar, eligibility for the QCHP exam includes: ●Degree Requirements: ○ BPharm with two years of pharmacy experience. ○ PharmD with one year of pharmacy experience. ○Master’s degree in pharmacy (BPharm + MPharm) with two years of experience.   2. ●Exemption: Candidates can be exempt from the Prometric exam if they have a PharmD (including a one-year internship) followed by two years of relevant experience. ●Registration: Must be registered as a pharmacist in the home country. Bahrain Pharmacy Licensure Examination (BPLE) The BPLE has specific requirements for pharmacists wishing to practise in Bahrain: ●Degree Requirements: Hold a BPharm or MPharm degree. ●Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in retail or hospital pharmacy. ●Registration: Candidates must also be registered as pharmacists in their home country. Ministry of Health Exam (MOH) - Kuwait The eligibility criteria for the MOH exam in Kuwait include: ●Degree Requirements: Hold a BPharm or MPharm degree. ●Experience: A minimum of two years of experience after earning a bachelor's degree as a pharmacist or pharmacy assistant. ●Registration: Registration in the home country is required. MOH HAAD and DHA - UAE For the UAE, specifically the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOH), Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD), and Dubai Health Authority (DHA) exams, the requirements are as follows: ●Degree Requirements: ○ BPharm with two years of experience, ○ or PharmD with one year of experience. ●Master’s Degree: A Master’s degree in pharmacy requires an additional two years of experience for licensure. ●Registration: Candidates must be registered in their home country.
