  3. 2002 Equipment • 2002 Equipment Committee Recommended new lightweight 4+ purchase • Could not agree on purchase • Dogs purchase Nellie Bly • Recommendation lost with $10,000 question to membership • “If GCRA had $10,000 to spend for additional boats, how would you suggest spending it?” • $15,000 collected in Usage Fees in 2002 • $11,000 never used • $4,000 miscellaneous repairs • Past accumulation of general purpose funds of $14,000

Midwest Masters Regatta • Proposed and agreed to over 3 Midwest conference calls and numerous emails • Scheduled June 7th in Columbus • 1 day event, no stay over for Midwest Crews • USRowing registered • Novice, Rec, Composite and Competitive Events • Launches available for coaches • Medals and T-shirts • 1000m, 500m, and stake events • Unpublicized, except for TRRA, WRRA, Ann Arbor and GCRA

MMR Venue • Denied use of Griggs by Columbus Recreation and Parks • Three alternatives exist: • Work with R&P to reconsider Griggs • Hoover • Downtown • R&P letter • “One of the purposes of the Marine Event permit process is to ensure that the public waterways always remain open for the use and enjoyment of the public at large. Special privileges may be granted for use of a section of reservoir only when it will not significantly impact the public’s use. The normal guidelines are not to schedule regattas on holidays or weekend days during the peak public boating season of May 1st to October 1st.”

Scott Dybiec: 2003 Outlook • Make competitive rowing a GCRA-recognized and supported program and get a rower development program off the ground • Get a Midwest Masters regatta started • Capital Improvements: • Pay off the Bly • Update riggers on the Passage • Competition • Make the finals at Nats in a sculling event • Make the finals at Nats in an 8 event

GCRA Supported Rower Development Programs • Presented outline of needs and made “straw man” recommendation to Officers/Trustees • Discussed Visions 1, 2, and 3 and unique competitive equipment requirements • In the hands of trustees • Issues: Equipment, Finances, Leadership • Working Group needed • Define viable alternative organization and financial accounting structures to support competitive rowing • Develop a transition plan to new organization
