  1. OPTION: Insert company or wellness program LOGO and/or TAGLINE here. Holiday Calories Quiz Of these traditional holiday buffet choices, which is the best option to help prevent holiday weight gain? Sweet potatoes False. Sweet potatoes are high in vitamins and A and C, a good source of potassium and fiber, and fat-and cholesterol-free. However, traditional recipes include too much butter and brown sugar to make this a healthy choice. Turkey True. Turkey is low-fat and a great source of lean protein and vitamin B. White meat is lower in fat and calories than dark meat so choose turkey breast rather than a drumstick. A serving is three ounces or about the same size as a deck of cards. Remember, drizzling on gravy adds unwanted fat and calories. Wheat dinner roll False. Bread can be an important source of fiber, but you must choose whole-grain varieties to make them nutritionally valuable. Food products labeled “multi-grain,” “whole wheat,” or “seven grain” are generally not whole-grain products. Cranberry sauce False. Cranberries are rich in potassium but the sauce is high in sugar. You would have to walk 15 to 30 minutes to burn off the possible 50 to 100 calories (depending on the recipe) from two ounces of this holiday favorite. Calories and calorie comparisons verified at The Daily Plate, 2008, “Calorie Calculator,” www.thedailyplate.com National Institutes of Health, “Action Guide for Healthy Eating,” 2008, www.nih.gov OPTION: Insert company intranet address, wellness program Web site, or EAP information here This resource was developed by The Dow Chemical Company
