Where In the World is Pablo Neruda? A geography quiz on Chile’s most famous poet and the places he lived.
Ask any Chilean who is the best poet in the world and without a doubt, they will say, “Neruda”. Even 30 years after his death, his love poems are still memorized and immortalized. Many of his poems reflect the culture, history and geography of Chile as well as other Latin American countries. His ode to common things are still fresh and entertaining today as they were when he wrote them.
What influenced his poetry and eventually his politics was being assigned to Chilean consulates around the world. To give diplomatic posts to writers and especially to poets, was a typical Chilean function as it was felt that when diplomacy mattered the most, writers and poets would be the best as putting it into words.
