  1. The Gender Equality Club at Rio Mesa High School will host the 2nd Annual Poetry Slam in honor of International Women’s Day on March 10, 2017, from 5 pm to 7 pm. The theme is, Be Bold For Change. The event is open to the community and participants are encouraged to read original or published material. The Gender Equality Club's Poetry Slam Be Bold For Change, is a welcoming and supportive venue for the spoken word. Food for purchase will be available with proceeds going to a local women's shelter. Donations welcome. Students at last year’s event combined social issues with emotion and performance in an extraordinary way. The overwhelming success of the Gender Equality Club’s first inaugural International Women’s Day Poetry Slam led to the creation of the Rio Mesa Spoken Word Club. Join us and be a part of this creative movement! Mia Hamernik, currently a senior, is Founder and President. English teacher, Michelle Martinez, is Club Advisor.
