Misconceptions You Need To Know About Saltwater Pools I work in an aquatic management group, many people ask me various questions about swimming pool maintenance. Recently a friend asked me about salt water pools. How do they work? What will be the cost? Are they worth the cost? Do I need new pool equipment? That friend asked me many questions related to salt water pool and being a good friend I answered all of his questions, but I also realize that he has many misconceptions about saltwater pools. Many people do not know about the saltwater pool, some of them have the wrong perception about salt water pools. Here I am going to tell you about some common misconceptions about the saltwater pool.
Salt water systems are chlorine and bromine free This is the most widely spread misconception about salt water pools. Many people think that salt water pool means no chlorine. Even I used to think the same before I joined the swimming Pool Management Atlanta. But this is not the case, saltwater pools produce their own supply of chlorine. Sodium chloride tablets are added and electrolysis process is carried out for the chlorine generation in the pool. Even at the beginning of the season, chlorine is added to the pool. You just have to add the salt in the pool Some of us may be thinking that we just have to add the salt and everything is good to go. Well, it is not that simple. A friend of mine who is working as a pool operator in a Atlanta lifeguard services, where he maintains both saltwater pool and the chlorine-based pool was saying that “sometimes, even in saltwater we have to add chlorine manually; and the proper amount of salt needs to be periodically added.” Salt systems will save you a lot of money on chemicals in the long run While it is true that you don’t have to spend money on buying chlorine, but those savings are negated by the initial cost of making a saltwater pool or renovating a normal chlorine pool to saltwater pool. If we talk about the span of 10-12 years, the overall cost difference between using a salt water chlorination and normal chlorination is minimal. Saltwater pools have its own advantages and drawbacks. One of the common advantages is improved water quality, but salt also triggers corrosion. What I am trying to say is that you should study all the advantages and drawbacks and clear all your misconceptions before making any decision.
