Philip • An angel told Philip where to “go” • Worked miracles in Samaria Acts 6:5-6, 8:6 • Philip was successful evangelistActs 8:12 • Jesus tells us to go Matthew 28:18-20 • The Spirit told him to join the chariot • We must initiate the contact • We are salt Matt. 5:13 • Salt requires contact to work!
The Ethiopian Eunuch • On his way home from worshiping in Jerusalem (800 miles) • Is time or distance a hindrance for us? • Treasurer for Queen Candace • He was reading the scriptures • How do we spend our extra time? • He heard Ethiopian eunuch reading out loud • Do we hide our faith or let it shine?
The Lead-in • The Ethiopian was reading Isaiah • Philip asked a question • “Do you understand what you are reading?” • The eunuch expressed his need for help, invited Philip to study with him • This is an approach we can use for scripture readers • Also use Paul’s approach in Acts 19:1-5
Preaching Jesus • Acts 8:5,12 • Gospel of the kingdom (church) • Includes the name of Jesus Christ (authority) • Acts 8:32-38 • Includes fulfilled O.T. prophecies • Includes suffering and death of Christ • Includes baptism in water
Faith and Obedience • Teaching produced faith Romans 10:17 • Faith seeks to obey James 2:24 • Baptism is desired, urgent • Who may be baptized • One who believes with ALL his heart • The eunuch confesses Christ Rom. 10:9-10, 13 • Philip immerses him (a burial Rom. 6:3-4) • Baptism is into the death of Christ Rom. 6:3 • He went on his way rejoicing. Why?
