OS X Security • You must log on to use the computer • Login name: • Old fog login • First letter of first name + up to first seven letters of last name • No spaces or special characters • E.g.: Mickey Fa = mfaGhislaine Van Zantwyck = gvanzant • Password: Initially, the same as login City College of San FranciscoTechnology Learning Center

  14. Log Out vs. Shut Down • To display the Login screen but not power down:Apple menu > Log Out • Use on busy or shared computers City College of San FranciscoTechnology Learning Center

  21. Adding new software • Install programs yourself • Be Careful! Follow installation instructions • Check with the Robert Lam (rlam@ccsf.edu) before installing software that affects the network • E.g. chat, server-based programs, streaming media • Backup documents regularly • Keep program installation CDs and serial numbers….   22. Software compliance • Please do not copy or install any illegal or unlicensed software on your CCSF computer! • Commercial software must be legally: • Purchased • Licensed • Installed in accordance with its license City College of San FranciscoTechnology Learning Center

  23. Allowing System updates • Apple puts out OS updates • You will see a window like this • If you have time, click Install • Save any open files first! City College of San FranciscoTechnology Learning Center
