Low power High power Magnification Stage opening Diaphragm lever
Using a Microscope • Use coarse adjustment knob to lower the stage. • Turn the objective lenses so that the lowest power objective is over the stage opening. • Adjust diaphragm so that the largest opening is aligned with the stage opening • Open stage clips and place slide on stage. • Turn on light
Using a Microscope • Adjust slide so that the light is shining on the specimen intended for viewing • Use coarse adjustment knob to bring the specimen into focus. • Use fine adjustment to improve focus • DRAW WHAT YOU SEE AND TAKE NOTES
Using a Microscope • Turn objective lenses so that the medium sized lens is over the stage opening. • DO NOT MOVE THE COARSE ADJUSTMENT KNOB • Use the fine adjustment knob to focus specimen • NOTE: the slide placement may need to be adjusted due to the change in field
Using a Microscope • DRAW WHAT YOU SEE AND TAKE NOTES • Repeat for the high power magnification objective lens • When finished, carefully remove slide and return it to the slide case • Turn off microscope light • Cover microscope to keep it clean
Microscope Care • Turn off light when not in use to save money • Never touch lenses with your fingers • Use a lens wipe to clean lenses • Carry microscopes by supporting the base and holding the arm • Be careful not to allow slide clip to break slide
