  1. PROGRAM SCOPE Design, Build and Test 2 Vehicles with alternative forms of energy MULE Purpose: Evaluate energy demands and packaging restraints to traverse rough terrain and carry a load • 1-ton, Diesel / Electric Hybrid with alternative forms of hybrid energy • 30 mph on improved roads; Silent Propulsion at 4 mph, 20 minutes • Sensing and communication capabilities UGV Purpose: Evaluate needs and demands of communication module, sensor suite and data fusion equipment

  2. COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT YEAR 1 Define requirements and produce a detailed design List of specifications of all components Detailed budget for all components YEAR 2 Build and test MULE and UGV List of costs to build Furnish test data MTU/KRC path forward requires purchasing UGV equipment in Year 1

  3. PATH FORWARD Parallel Path with UGV allowing development while MULE is designed and built UGV • KRC’s existing UGV will be used for • Mobility Control development • Deployment of Mission Equipment Packages (sensor suites and/or alternative fuel auxiliary power – subject to payload restrictions) • Evaluate needs and demands of communication module, sensor suite, and data fusion equipment – Measure and record power use MULE • Diesel / electric hybrid vehicle • Off-road mobility and payload capacity for military applications • Silent Propulsion capabilities with alternative energy sources (Year 2) • Utilize Control Hardware from UGV

  4. LIMITATIONS BASED ON TIME and FUNDING UGV • Need to immediately start using existing vehicle for information gathering for power requirements of sensors and mobility control development (teleop) • No changes in existing power plant or propulsion system • Alternative fuel power only as payload for auxiliary power (DIPI) • Available as platform for other Mission Equipment Packages MULE • Need to design and develop basic electric propulsion off-road vehicle • Ability to add Alternative Fuel Power as selected in future • Use Mobility Control hardware developed on UGV • Use sensor suites developed on UGV

  5. NEED NAME FOR LARGER UGV A “MULE-LIKE” vehicle MULE is trademark of Lockheed Martin and defined by FCS This is a Technology Demonstrator / Research Tool / Development Platform For the 2.5-ton class of military robotic vehicles designed to transport the volume and payload of equipment and supplies for two squads. DIPIAFD – Drop In Plug In Alternative Fuel Demonstrator ?
