Conveyor belt damages are typical of the carcass, covers and fabric. The cover can obtain cuts, tears, rips, scoring and gouges. The carcasses are bound to be worn out and punctured. The belt frays and fracture happen at the edges of the belt. The conveyor belt repairs leads to unprepared downtime and it can leave the operations offline for a considerable amount of time making it crucial for repairs and maintenance on a regular basis.
Conveyor belt repairs have to be instant to prevent downtime and loss in production. The need for effective repairs like conveyor belt cold solution and hot vulcanizing methods can reduce the downtime considerably. The conveyor belts can be divided into three types: 1. ST Steel Cord Conveyor belt 2. Nylon Fabric conveyor belt 3. Flame retardant PVC Whole Core Conveyor belt/ Solid Woven PVC Belts
Over a period of time vulcanized splices give way from the inside out leading to poor adhesion and the signs of wear may be late enough for taking any preventive measures. Vulcanized belts stick well out performing the mechanical splice. The process requires special tools and a deep knowledge of using the rubber bonding process.
The cold vulcanizing method uses vulcanized materials like strips and patches to repair a worn out conveyor belt. The process of cold vulcanization does not include a press. It uses bonding agent that causes chemical reaction to attach two belt ends together. The damaged area is identified and cleaned and the vulcanized material is placed to secure it with adhesive.
The cold vulcanizing method is predominantly used in repairing belt covered that are damaged by gouges, scoring or other wear types. In contrast the hot vulcanizing method uses pressure and heat to splice the conveyor belt damaged area. Hot vulcanizing splice is cured under pressure using a vulcanizing press, once heated. The damaged area is trimmed with care and new section is placed using adhesives.
