Canterbury Junior Rugby League Subsidy Aims for Inclusive Sports Environment

Families in the Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government Area can now breathe a sigh of relief, thanks to the new Canterbury League Club sports subsidy program. In a collaborative effort with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs Rugby League Club, this initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families with children participating in grassroots junior rugby league.

The2024CanterburyJuniorRugbyLeagueSubsidyProgramisdesignedtocoverteamregistration feesupto$100perchildforthosewhomeettheagecriteria,rangingfromUnder5stoUnder13s withintheCanterbury-BankstownJuniorRugbyLeaguedistrict.Thissubsidyisasignificantstep towardmakingsportsaccessibletoall childrenin thearea,irrespective oftheirfamily's financial situation. “Wewantedtoremoveobstaclespreventingchildrenfromparticipatingingrassrootsrugbyleagueinourlocalarea,especiallyconsideringthecostsoflivinghaveshotupdramaticallythesepastfew years,”saidPeterWinchester,ChairmanofCanterburyLeagueClub.Thisthoughtfulinitiativeensuresthatmorechildrencanenjoythebenefitsofparticipatinginsports,learningessentialvalues suchasteamwork,leadership,andinclusivity. Theresponsetothisyear’sprogramhasbeenoverwhelminglypositive,with1,687eligible kids signingup,markinganincreasefromlastyear’sparticipationnumbers.“Itisfantastictoseemore childrenparticipatinginsports–andlearningthevaluesofteamwork, leadership, andinclusivity. Wehopetowelcomeevenmorekidstotheprograminthecomingyears,”Peteradded. TheCanterburyLeagueClub'scommitmentto communitysupportextendsbeyondtherugby field.
