  1. Actors and The Acting Agency The best way to get acting roles and acting work is through an acting agency. They represent actors in exchange for a commission from the actor's salary. An acting agent's job is to know what roles are being cast and what traits or characteristics the production is looking for. How do you get an agent? Acting agencies will only represent you if they believe you have the talent necessary to land roles. The agent will only collect a commission if you are able to audition well and land roles. For that reason, many agents require you to audition for them. They may put you through the process of a cold read audition to determine what skills you have. You will want to be prepared to meet with an acting agency. How do you prepare? Study the acting craft. Learn the principles of sense memory, concentration and Method Acting. Practice your skills at scene analysis and cold read auditions. Be as prepared as possible to meet with an agent. Next, beware of an acting agency asking for money from you the actor. Legitimate agencies collect a commission from the actor's salary. They do not require money from the actor. Be sceptical of an agent wanting you to pay them for an acting boot camp or acting lessons. Finally submit you headshot and resume to the acting agency. Many times, you may not hear back. Keep submitting to them periodically, especially if you have an update to your resume. Persistence is the key to pursuing an agent.
