Blog1: Chipwizard.ca A Windscreen Ding Vs. A Crack A ding on a car windscreen is innocent as opposed to a nasty, large spider web crack. The former can be mended while the later has but one remedy, a replacement of the glass. When it’s said like that, it sounds like a pretty plain judgement. But, it is not much of an easy decision when the reality behind glass damages is precluded from common understanding by marketing hoax. If you are looking at a damaged windscreen in which the hurt is more than dent and less than a spider crack, then here is what you have to do? Take the measurement of the crack. If it’s as large as your thumb, then you have but one choice, get the screen replaced before the next accident gets the whole glass caving under the force of the collision. Should the damage be no larger than the size of a quarter, then there is still hope for a repair. That brings us back to the title of this piece. A ding is repairable, but not a crack that looks like a web. A veritable windshield repair company in Regina will tell you the same thing. Repairing is done with the use of epoxy resin or composite materials that work as fillers closing the opening of the cracks in the glass. As for replacement, it involves taking out the entire glass and installing a brand new one in place of it. It doesn’t need saying that replacement costs three time or perhaps greater than a repair job.
