  2. About Pinus sylvestris Pinus sylvestris, commonly known as Scots pine or Scotch pine, is a conifer species native to Eurasia, ranging from Western Europe to Eastern Siberia. In the north of its range, it occurs from the British Isles through Scandinavia and Russia to northern Mongolia. It has been introduced into North America where it is widely distributed in Canada and the northern United States. It grows in upland and mountainous habitats up to 1,600 metres (5,249 ft), often with lowland forest on southern slopes down to sea level.
