DESIGN GOALS • Create an iconic place for an international icon, the Gateway Arch. • Catalyze increased vitality in the St. Louis region. • Honor the character-defining elements of the Historic Landmark. • Weave connections and transitions from the City and the Arch grounds to the River. • Embrace the Mississippi River and the east bank in Illinois as an integral part of the National Park. DESIGN GOALS • Reinvigorate the Mission to tell the story of St. Louis as the Gateway to national expansion. • Create attractors to promote extended visitation to the Arch, the City and the River. • Mitigate the impact of transportation systems. • Develop a sustainable future. • Enhance the visitor experience and create a working and accessible environment.   7. STAGE ONE: PORTFOLIO • Attracting Both Emerging and Established Designers • Portfolio Submittal • Profile of lead designer and design team • Recent work by each designer • Statement of design philosophy by the lead designer • 9 Teams Have Been Selected

STAGE TWO: TEAM QUALIFICATIONS, INTERVIEW • Networking Session • Formation of Complete Design Teams • Federal Standard Form 330 • Proposed team • Resumes of key personnel • Sample projects • Interview • Key members of design team give a presentation • Discussion with jury • 4-5 Teams Will Be Selected

  9. STAGE THREE: DESIGN CONCEPT • 90 Day Design Concept Competition • Teams Submit a Design Proposal Responding to Specific Criteria and Clarifying • Program • Site • Technical Requirements • Result of the Competition • Design Concept for the site • Design Team capable of executing its vision
