    1. TRINNOD SURVEY Spain January-February 2009 L Salvador-Carulla, M Ruiz, L Tejonero AEECRM

    3. Six centres volunteered to participate in this survey. Afanas Vistahermosa. Residence for severe cases (Jerez de la Frontera), 5 cases of support workers Asmelt Association (Jerez de la Frontera), 4 cases of support workers Asiquipu Day Care Centre (Barbate) ,15 cases of support workers and 51 of family members Giner de los Ríos School (Barbate) , 2 cases of support workers Upace San Fernando Centre for Cerebral Palsy (San Fernando) , 25 cases of support workers Las Lomas School (Vejer de la Frontera), 3 cases of support workers Sample: 105 participants. 15 aditional questionnaires have been completed but were not available for the data processing on time to be included in this report Problems of reliability and adequacy appeared not only in the ID sample but also in the family and the professional or “support workers” groups

    4. Questionnaire for support workers Training Physician (2) Psychologist (4) Nurse (5) Teacher (6) Teacher on special education (5) Social worker (6) Speech therapist (3) Psychopedagogue (5) Physiotherapist (1) Other formal Carers (13)

    5. Definiton of the work with PDD B) It is an occupation implying great responsibilities ?35 C) It is a job of great value ?19

    6. Problems arisen during compilation The questionnaire has raised concerns on its overall feasibility. There were problems in understanding and in a lack of tackling actual needs of carers with regard to this topic. Carers agree on the relevance and the lack of training on MH-ID Specific problems Question 10. What are the theoretical grounds on which your team’s activities are founded? Support workers do not usually follow theoretical models in their daily work, they are unaware whether the centre has theoretical foundations or not. Question 11 What and how many professionals, services and persons do work in your team and community for people with dual diagnosis There is no specific information available of community professionals working on DD Question 13 Which of the following topics have been adopted in your community to promote users and families’ quality of life There is a general feeling of ambiguity on this question because it is difficult to know what are the theoretical backgrounds of all the centres that represent the community

    7. Questionnaire for families n=51 Average age ? 43.3 years Gender ? 42 women ? 9 men Marital Status - Married?44 Single?5 Widowed?1 Divorced?1 Training University studies (13) High school studies (26) Primary studies (3) No studies at all (9)

    8. All the cases were collected in the same centre (ASIQUIPU). This association provides most social care for ID in one municipality and its county (Barbate, Cadiz). It does not have special resources to cover MH problems, so the families regarded MH-ID services and training as a major unmet need. Other demand is related to financing of ID services as it depends on time-limited programmes at the time being. In the future it may be interesting to carry out a survey in a municipality with high provision of MH services for ID and compare with ASIQUIPU Question 3. In your opinion which of the topics listed below have been developed by the team that supports your relative There was little understanding on the different levels and structure of care provision for this population group. This is not limited to MH-ID but related to ID care in general. The low level of reported development may be related to lack of understanding as it does not match with answers reported by support workers. In any case this response pattern needs further analysis.

    9. Questionnaire for users N=6 Questionnaires were completed in two centres (ASIQUIPU and UPACE) The interviewers reported that the questions were not understood by users and that the questionnaire should be thoroughly reviewed to be administered to persons with ID (content, language) Due to feasibility problems and the low prospect of getting any reliable information we stopped interviewing users with ID after receiving this information These data have not been analysed
