Specific problems
Question 10. What are the theoretical grounds on which your team’s activities are founded?
Support workers do not usually follow theoretical models in their daily work, they are unaware whether the centre has theoretical foundations or not.
Question 11 What and how many professionals, services and persons do work in your team and community for people with dual diagnosis
There is no specific information available of community professionals working on DD
Question 13 Which of the following topics have been adopted in your community to promote users and families’ quality of life
There is a general feeling of ambiguity on this question because it is difficult to know what are the theoretical backgrounds of all the centres that represent the community

8. All the cases were collected in the same centre (ASIQUIPU).
This association provides most social care for ID in one municipality and its county (Barbate, Cadiz).
It does not have special resources to cover MH problems, so the families regarded MH-ID services and training as a major unmet need. Other demand is related to financing of ID services as it depends on time-limited programmes at the time being.
In the future it may be interesting to carry out a survey in a municipality with high provision of MH services for ID and compare with ASIQUIPU
Question 3. In your opinion which of the topics listed below have been developed by the team that supports your relative
There was little understanding on the different levels and structure of care provision for this population group. This is not limited to MH-ID but related to ID care in general. The low level of reported development may be related to lack of understanding as it does not match with answers reported by support workers. In any case this response pattern needs further analysis.
9. Questionnaire for users N=6
Questionnaires were completed in two centres (ASIQUIPU and UPACE)
The interviewers reported that the questions were not understood by users and that the questionnaire should be thoroughly reviewed to be administered to persons with ID (content, language)
Due to feasibility problems and the low prospect of getting any reliable information we stopped interviewing users with ID after receiving this information
