A true lover of adventure believes that nature and everything that’s in it should be cared for so it can be best admired by everyone. The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics was established in 1994 with the goal of implementing practices for sustaining the environment for future generations to enjoy. Hundreds of organizations across the globe adhere to these tenets. These simple rules encourage everyone, both young and old, to stand by these practices whenever they head outdoors. Plan ahead and Prepare Be in the know about the weather, local flora and fauna, and protected species. This also includes learning about house rules in your campsite or national park. Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces When walking on a trail, do so in a single file to avoid trampling on the vegetation. Only traverse on designated areas, and set up camp on ground with hard soil to avoid erosion. Use tents that can be mounted on the ground, without the need to tie them to trees or branches. When transferring your gear such as boats and trailers, avoid dragging them on delicate areas where plants can be damaged. Dispose of Waste Properly This involves following the designated waste disposal areas in the campsite or park. If human waste is to be disposed, areas should be dug up at least 100 meters away from any body of water to avoid contamination. Leave What You Find If not necessary, avoid picking or uprooting plants and flowers from their native habitat. Do not transfer weeds, seeds, or rocks from one part of the site to another, and simply leave them as you have found them. Minimize Campfire Impacts Most campsites provide visitors with areas to set up their fires. When smoking, dispose of cigarette butts properly, and not leave them on the ground. It helps to ensure that the fire is completely extinguished before moving out of the site. Respect Wildlife As much as possible, avoid interacting with the local wildlife. Avoid feeding the animals, and do not leave food behind for them. Page | 2

3. Be Considerate of Other Visitors As you are not the only people who have the right to enjoy the scenery, it helps to keep voices low at all times. Do not use loud radios, stereo systems, or even mobile phones and other gadgets that can disturb others.
