  1. The Timing of Training Plenty of time and energy is spent in talent development pondering answers to the: “Who?” “What?” “Why?” “Where?” and “How?” questions of training, but the question of “When?” is often limited to one answer: “Whenever time permits.”

  2. The Timing of Training The strategic element of timing in training is more nuanced than “Whenever”, and can lead to significant gains in return on investment if planned properly.

  3. Part 3: Knowledge Formation

  4. Knowledge Crystallization This point in the curve marks the period where learners are rapidly beginning to crystallize knowledge gleaned from: On-the-Job Training & Experiential Learning

  5. Everything Just ‘Clicks’ Suddenly peer to peer learning becomes much more powerful, since the learners become familiar with training materials they are able to teach each other. This is when communities of practice are especially useful

  6. The Student Becomes The Teacher

  7. Train One Another The Best way to capitalize on the knowledge formation section of the learning curve is to hold training events in which the learners need to formally train each other on certain areas of expertise.

  8. For Example If you are training leadership skills, each participant would have to: Present for 5 minutes on a particular leadership skill Or Present best practices for a leadership skill Or Lead a group exercise

  9. Peer Coaching Learners who coach their peers on their training curriculum reinforce what they have learned and convert that knowledge to long term memory.

  10. Peer Coaching Learners who coach their peers on their training curriculum reinforce what they have learned and convert that knowledge to long term memory. These peer-peer learning events can take place In a Classroom or Virtually, But should be facilitated by an experienced trainer.
