8. Registration Timeline February 22- 26: Students will receive registration information, including new SPAN account codes, in their 2nd period classes. March 4:Our Curriculum Fair will be held for rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. March 8:SPAN will open for students to go online and register for courses. March 18: SPAN registration will close.

Class Rank • To determine class rank, each high school uses final course grades, dividing the total number of quality points earned by the total number of units of credit attempted. • Advanced Placement (AP) courses carry two extra quality points, and honors (Hon) courses carry one extra quality point. • A Senior Honors Rank is calculated through the third nine weeks of the senior year for senior honors or awards (e.g., Honor Graduate, NC Academic Scholar).

21. Transcripts • Transcripts are available for request through Student Services • Students receive 3 free transcripts per year • A Records Release Form must be signed by a parent to request a transcript • Students must allow up to 10 school days for transcript requests to be fulfilled

Dual Enrollment Opportunities • Dual Enrollment gives high school students the opportunity to take approved courses at accredited institutions • Students must obtain prior approval • Courses taken must provide opportunities not currently available to the student at his or her high school. This includes courses of an advanced and/or expanded nature • Review the policies, guidelines, and application process located in the Wake County Program Planning Guide

23. Standardized Tests PSAT School-based test given each October (WCPSS pays for sophomores) Provides preparation for the SAT National Merit Scholarship Program qualifying test for juniors

Standardized Tests SAT I (Reasoning Test) Measures academic skills students need in order to be successful in college: Critical Reading, Math, and Writing Recommend taking it in the spring of junior year and once again at the beginning of senior year Administered at various high schools in January, March, May, June, October, November, and December Register and prepare online at collegeboard.com

Standardized Tests ACT Curriculum-based test designed to measure academic achievement and college readiness in four areas: English, Math, Reading & Science Writing test is optional but required for admission to NC public universities as well as some private colleges Can be taken in addition to the SAT or as an alternative for college admissions purposes Register and prepare online at act.org

26. NCAA Eligibility • NCAA certifies your eligibility to compete as a student-athlete, but your college must accept you as a student. • NCAA evaluates your academic record to determine if you are eligible to participate at a Division I or II college as a freshmen. • You can review the eligibility requirements and register at www.eligibilitycenter.org • Student-athletes should register after the completion of their junior year. • Check the Wake County Program Planning Guide for a list of approved courses
