North Carolina Community College System Mission The mission of the North Carolina Community College System is to open the door to high-quality, accessible educational opportunities that minimize barriers to post-secondary education, maximize student success, develop a globally and multi-culturally competent workforce, and improve the lives and well-being of individuals by providing: Education, training and retraining for the workforce, including basic skills and literacy education, occupational and pre-baccalaureate programs. Support for economic development through services to and in partnership with business and industry and in collaboration with the University of North Carolina System and private colleges and universities. Services to communities and individuals which improve the quality of life. NCCCS 01/08

NC Aerospace Alliance • Activities to Date: • Over $11,000,000 of Golden Leaf grants to NCSU, WCU, Lenoir CC & Haywood CC to develop Reverse Engineering (RE) capabilities and advanced machining training centers • Advanced Machining Centers located at Lenoir & Haywood CC’s • Currently running three reverse engineering projects for Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station NCCCS 01/08
North Carolina Military Business Center Goals: Increase federal contracting with NC firms; recruit defense contractors; integrate military into the workforce • Business Development (16 JAN 2008) • Team operating in 10 locations (9 Community Colleges) • 2008: Firms won 28 contracts, worth $15.1 million • 2005-08: Firms won 389 contracts, worth $606-1,387 million • MatchForce.org (16 JAN 2008) • 10,188 NC businesses, 19,291 individuals registered • 7,397 contracts, 1,888 job opportunities; all fed/state jobs • Strategic Focus • Construction: NC firms to compete; out-of-state firms to locate in NC • Pre-positioning: NC firms for major contracts • Subcontracting: develop opportunities with major primes • Employment: 10,000 job postings
