RoastBeef and Yorkshire pudding Roast beef is a typical main course of the traditional Sunday lunch in the U.K. It is of Anglo-Saxon origins. Ingredients • Beef • Garlic powder • Freshly ground pepper • 1/4 teaspoon salt • 1 cup flour • 2 eggs beaten • 1 cup of milk
Preparation Preheat oven to 190°. • Wash roast and sprinkle with garlic powder, salt and pepper. • Cook in a skillet and put it in the oven about 90 minutes. • In a bowl, beat the eggs. In another bowl, mix the salt and flour. Mix the beaten eggs into the flour stirring constantly and gradually pour in the milk. • Preheat oven to 200°. • Put the mixture in the oven for about 30 minutes.
Fish and chips is the classic English take-away food and is the traditional national food of England. It became popular in the 1860's when railways began to bring fresh fish straight from the east coast to the cities over night. The fish is deep fried in flour batter and is eaten with chips. Traditionally, fish and chips is covered with salt and malt vinegar and eaten straight out of the paper which they are wrapped in. In the north of England, fish and chips is often served with "mushy peas" (mashed peas). Ingredients • Cod fillets • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into strips • 1 cup flour • 1 teaspoon baking powder • 1 teaspoon salt • 1 teaspoon black pepper • 1 cup milk • 1 egg • Oil for frying Fish and Chips
Preparation Put potatoes in a bowl of cold water. In a separate bowl mix flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in the milk and egg; stir until the mixture is smooth. Letmixture stand for 20 minutes. • Preheat the oil in a large skillet. • Fry the potatoes in the hot oil until they are tender. Drain them on paper towels. • Dip the fish into the batter and one piece at a time fry in hot oil until the fish is golden brown. Drain well on paper towels. • Fry the potatoes again for 1 to 2 minutes.

Method Wash the potatoes, but do not peel them.Take a fork or skewer and pinch the potatoes. Bake for 45- 60 minutes until tender. Alternatively, cook in the microwave for 12 minutes. Serve and try some deliciouscombination. Forexample: • Potatoes with Cheese and Pastrami, • Potatoes with Tomato and onion, • Potatoes with cottage cheese or yogurt and chives, • Potatoes with Spicy Yogurt.
Bangers and Mash Bangers and mash, is a traditional English dish made of mashed potatoes and sausages. Ingredients • 8 potatoes • 2 teaspoonsofbutter • 1/2 cup milk • salt and pepper • 1 1/2 poundssausage • 1/2 cupdicedonion • 1 packet dry brown gravy mix • 1 cupwater
Method 1) Preheat the oven to 175 degrees . Place potatoes in a saucepan with water. Bring to a boil, and cook until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain, and mash with 1 teaspoon of butter, and milk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. 2) In a large skillet cook the sausage. Remove from pan, and set aside. Add teaspoon of butter to the skillet, and fry the onions until tender. Mix gravy mix and water, and add the onions to the skillet.
