Overview • Learning opportunities in a foreign environment • Opportunity to make international contacts • High level of student involvement • Opportunity to connect with (study-abroad) students from the University of Akron College of Business • 3 Saturdays pre-trip preparation (10:00 AM to 5:00 PM) • 2 week travel: Management school, companies, and sight-seeing

Why India? • 4th largest economy in the world • The most diverse country • Strength in “(Knowledge) Services economy” (unlike China that is known for manufacturing); Learn: • How value in services (medical, pharmaceutical, R & D, and IT & IT-enabled areas) is created • About the Indian Business Environment • About the potential opportunities for US businesses • Share of services work in the US is growing • Unique sight-seeing opportunity • Thomas Friedman “World is Flat”
What will we do? • Lectures/discussions at XIME (6 days) • About 12 lectures from top notch leaders in their field (culture, management, IP, services, IT, etc.) • Interactions, both formal and informal, with students (including class visit) • Site visits -- companies/organizations that provide R&D, IT services, medical tourism, biotech, and manufacturing for global businesses • Sight Seeing (7 days) -- Palaces, safari, capitol buildings, tombs (including the Taj Mahal), forts, market places, etc. (+ transit country)

What Are the Deadlines? What Courses Does my Trip Substitute for? • First study-abroad Trip: • MBA: BUAD 655 (Global Business) or equivalent emphasis course • MAM: by approval of Graduate Program Director • MSIT: INFT 630 • BAM/ BSB: BUSB 342 • Second study-abroad Trip: • By approval of Undergraduate or Graduate Program Director
What’s Included in the Price? • All group transportation from the departure airport (LAX) and back (including all travel in India but excluding travel and sight seeing in transit country) • Housing • Foreign Tuition (this may be reimbursed by your company) • Close to 75% of the meals
What Are the Academic Requirements? • Research paper (country-analysis or topic as agreed upon by advisor) • Travel journal • Presentations • Class participation
Can I Stay Longer? • Yes, but you have to let us know by the time of the deposit • You can also meet the group at the first destination, but you also have to let us know by then • Please note that you need to be with the group for all academic portions of the trip in order to receive credit
Is It Safe? • All trips are as safe as any travel that you can do on your own to any of the destinations selected, if not safer. • Since its inception, we have not had any safety-related incidents in this program (i.e., the last four years).
What is the Housing Quality? • Varies by location • In Bangalore we will stay at the Executive residence at XIME (more like a three star hotel) • In Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, the hotels are four or five star.
