Energy Efficiency and Conservation HOME STAR aka Cash for Caulkers A revised version of the Home Star Energy Retrofit Act of 2010 (S. 3434) was introduced in the United States Senate May 27th Home Star incentives include the Gold Star and Silver Star Rebate Programs. The Silver Star program provides incentives ranging from $50 to $1,500 for various prescriptive energy efficiency improvement measures. The Gold Star program follows a performance-based path for incentives, offering $3,000 for a 20% improvement in a home's energy efficiency and an additional $1,000 for each additional 5% reduction, capped at $8,000 or 50% of the total retrofit cost (including the cost of audit and diagnostic procedures). • More Information: • www.efficiencyfirst.org/home-star /
Energy Efficiency and Conservation Going Forward - “Nearly 60% of the region’s new demand for electricity over the next five years and 85% over the next 20 years, could be met with energy efficiency.” —Northwest Power and Conservation Council, Sixth Power Plan, February 2010 Together we can each do our part as a member of our island community to keep rates down by increasing the energy efficiency of our homes and businesses. If we all become more energy efficient NOW, we can limit the load growth on our electric system in the near future—for which we will soon be charged more costly “Tier 2” rates.
