Facts on File Tour. This database has several modules that you will use during high school. Ancient & Medieval History Online , Ferguson's Career Guidance Center , and World Geography & Culture Online will be used at North Campus.

Facts on File Tour This database has several modules that you will use during high school. Ancient & Medieval History Online, Ferguson's Career Guidance Center, and World Geography & Culture Online will be used at North Campus. This tour will focus on the World Geography module but the basic steps in retrieving material can be used for all of the database. Click through the tour at your own pace.
Step 1 • Open Internet Explorer to district home page • Select North Campus • Choose Library • Click Research Central from the Library page
Step 2 On the Research Central page: • Click Online Databases • Open Facts on File • Login with campus username & password found on computer monitor or your bookmark
Step 3 From the list of modules: • Choose World Geography & Culture Online • Select Mexico as your country to research
Step 4 You are now viewing the “At-A-Glance” page for Mexico. You can get many instant facts from this page. **Notice the Country Menu on the left that breaks down information into sections.
Step 5 There is a handy map on the right and a flag on the left for copying or printing. **You may copy & paste from this and all pages in the database.
Step 6 Click on the capital city name to get detailed info on that major city. Besides a map you can learn about it’s history, interesting things to see and do there.
Step 7 Scroll to the bottom of the “AT-A-Glance” page • Find the Citation Information section. • This can be copied onto your Works Cited page or slide to verify your source .
Step 8 The menu near the top right of this page offers help: • Print – if you want to print just this page • Citation – takes you straight to the page citation at the bottom of each page • Larger/Smaller - will change the text size for easier reading • Save – saves current page to a folder in the top right corner
Step 9 In the Country Menu on the left of the page: • Open the “People & Culture” sub menu to find the most popular sport in Mexico. ** Remember the citation for this & all pages is at the bottom.
Step 10 Back in the Country Menu: • Open Government & then citizenship to find out how to acquire Mexican nationality. **Once again, find the citation at the bottom of your page.
Step 11 Below the Country Menu find “Compare & Rank” • Choose to compare & click “Go” to see the screen to set up a comparison of Mexico to other countries.
Step 12 • Choose Birth Rate as your statistic • Select and Add Mexico & Afghanistan • Click Compare • Which country has the highest birth rate? ** Don’t forget that citation at the bottom
Step 13 If you add Mexico to the Search box at the top you will get a list of News Articles about Mexico Some of these might be new enough to be used for current events as well as country research. **Notice each article has it’s own citation at the bottom.
Step 14 The menu at the top left has 2 areas to aid research: • Gazetteer – groups information by topic; then by country • Resources – 9 sections to help you research specific topics about your country Explore these areas to see how they can expand your research.
You have now completed the “Facts on File Tour”. You are ready to begin using this database to research a country of your choice. Refer to this copy of the tour saved in your school server if you need help. Bon Voyage!
