DPOR’s mission The Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation's mission is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public by licensing qualified individuals and businesses and enforcing standards of professional conduct for professions and occupations as designated by statute.

6. Who do we regulate? The Dept. of Prof.& Occ.Reg. administers & enforces laws regulating 31 commercial occupations and professions.
Thru 19 reg. bds, DPOR licenses/certifies more than 250,000 indiv. & bus.-ranging from arch. & contractors to cosmet. &real estate agents.
Gov. Warner is strong supporter of ed. & training to dev. top-notch workforce & strong economy. Promotes the use of innovative partnerships to reduce costs, eliminate duplication, increase communications & take advantage of best practices.
The Gov. requires all agency heads to enter into Exec.Agreements, in which agency Directors outline priorities & goals & Gov. agrees to provide support to accomplish them. A critical part of DPOR’s Exec. Agremnt includes an action plan for establishing educatinl partnerships.
DPOR pushes the boundaries of regulatory activity by offering assistance in keeping regulants in compliance with laws and regulations. Our Strat. Plan addresses the need to encourage a well trained workforce and to protect VA citizens.
The partnerships we develop to meet the ed. needs of our regulants – from preparing for licsing exams to learning about complex tax issues facing small businesses – help us achieve our goals.
