Sub-Committee Meeting-1 • Conducted meeting on 27/11/2007 under the chairmanship of Managing Director, KSBCL. • Agenda – Contract Farming, Wine Institute, Logo for Wine Board and Wine Fair. • The following course of action was agreed. • To make clear tripartite agreement between Farmer and Company, Farmer and Bank and Bank and company. • Establishment of Wine Institute in IIHR to facilitate capacity and skill development in the sector. • Creation of logo for Wine Board. (Mr. Kapil Grover has suggested around 15 logos for the consideration of Board). • Discussion to conduct Wine fairs by Wine appreciation program through seminars.

Sub-Committee Meeting-2 • Conducted meeting on 05/02/2008 under the chairmanship of Managing Director, KSBCL. • Agenda – Establishment of Wine Institute at IIHR and UAS,Dharwad • The following course of action was agreed. • Development of Grape Wine varieties and production of Grape Wine varieties through local nursery development and in-house R&D. The IIHR, Bangalore and College of Agriculture, UAS, Bijapur would facilitate the following in consultation with the Wine Board and the Industry. • Recommendation of suitable varieties based on soil and environmental conditions on identified farmers lands. • Creation of institutional support for farmers and industry to easily access technology support for cultivation of Grape Wine. • Development of short term skill based training courses (Diploma and certificate courses) in Grape Wine cultivation and Industry.

Sub-Committee Meeting-3 • Conducted meeting on 10/03/2008 under the chairmanship of Managing Director, KSBCL. • Agenda – Meeting and Discussion with the delegates of California Wine Institute, USA.
California Wine Institute delegates expressed their desire to have MOU between UAS, Bijapur/IIHR through the facilitation of Wine Board for deriving the mutual benefits in the following areas. • Exchange of root stock material • Supplying of new grape wine cultivars • Developing wine connoisseurs/masters in India • Exchange of wine yeast & technology for making active dry yeast powder. • Detection of virus in seedlings & supply of healthy planting material to growers. • Exchange of technical information. • Visits of Indian Experts/Growers /Administrators to California & Vice Versa. • Studying the method of creating the American wine grape growing regions and exploring the same to Indian conditions in creating a zone of special wine appellation. • Organizing International Events in collaboration with Indian and Californian Wine Institutes. • Studying the regulation method to achieve quality wine production in California & exploring the same to Indian conditions.

Site visit for the proposed Wine park at Bijapur Dr.B.Krishna, MD,Wine Board, visited the proposed site (Thoravi village, Bijapur Talluk) for Wine park along with Mr.B.M.Kokare, Member, Wine Board, Dr.A.B.Patil and Scientists from Bijapur, Revenue Inspector and Land Surveyor, Bijapur The following were the observations. • The site is not located on the main road and is not having proper approach road. • The soil is very shallow and rocky and requires huge investment for making it suitable for vineyard planting. • The site looks dry with no vegetation on the survey numbers proposed and after the enquiry made with local residents near by it was said that there is no water source. • The members felt that if only wineries are to be established without vineyards then the site could be considered provided water is made available even for the number of wineries that are planned after taking the report from the geologists Note:Deputy Commissioner of Bijapur Mr.B.G.Nandakumar asked the Tahasildar, Basavana Bagewadi to locate such lands near Almatti dam site either near Nidagundi or between Mulawad to Kolar.
Visit to Bijapur to study the crop loss of Grapes during recent rain havoc. The following were the observations. • Minimum damage and loss to the Wine Grapes because of early harvest. • Nearly 50-60% crop loss in case of Table Grapes. • Conducted awareness program on different schemes of NHM, MIS, Farm Ponds, Cold Storages, Community Tanks, Vermicomposts, Biodigester units and Manuka sheds (raisin dryer).
Visit to Bagalkot, Bijapur, Belgaum, Koppal, Devanahalli, Chikballapur, Dodballapur, Kolar and Tumkur. • Noticed that some farmers were growing Wine Grape varieties without contract farming agreement. • Farmers were asked to grow Wine Grape varieties only after the contract farming agreement. • Educated the Wine Grape growers with the advanced cultivation practice. • Nearly 100 farmers are benefited with the different schemes of NHM, MIS, Farm Ponds, Cold Storages, Community Tanks, Vermicomposts, Biodigester units and Manuka sheds (raisin dryer).
Vineyard visits: • Hampi Heritage Winery, Bijapur • Naka Spurt, Devanahalli • Provided assistance for both the Grapevine yards through Department of Horticulture schemes - MIS, Farm Ponds, Community Tanks, Vermicomposts and Biodigester units.
3.Grover Vineyard, Dodballapur With the leadership of MD, KSBCL a trip to Grover Vineyard is organized for the senior officials of Government of Karnataka and their family. Event includes • Grape Vineyard visit • Winery visit • Wine tasting followed by lunch.
Future plan of Wine Board: • To increase the area and production of Grape wine crop in Karnataka state by encouraging the large numbers of farmers. • Making Contract farming agreement compulsory to all the Grape Wine growers and should register in the Wine Board. • Creation of institutional support for farmers and industry to easily access technology support for cultivation of Grape Wine through IIHR, Bangalore and UAS, Dharwad. • Development of short term skill based training courses (Diploma and certificate courses) in Grape Wine cultivation and Industry. • To create database on Wine by developing the Wine Board website with all the advanced information on Wine cultivation and Wine industry. • Conducting promotional activities for creating awareness about Wine Grape Cultivation, Wine Production and Consumption. • Wine festival, Wine Tour, Seminars on Wine and Wine Etiquettes
