  5. Perché Picasso realizza questo dipinto perché sconvolto dalla strage di Guernica in seguito al bombardamento della medesima avvenuto durante la Guerra Civile spagnola. Per la prima volta venne infatti coinvolta la popolazione civile nella sperimentazione della tecnica del bombardamento a tappeto.
