About His Work • Jim Denevan is a performing artist who draws massive sand pictures on the beaches in Northern California. • The pictures he makes are usually spirals and other simple shapes and their scale and location are selective and proportions are very precise. • The drawings last a few hours before they are erased by ocean, and one has to view the drawings from 150 feet up or more to see them

  3. His Methods • He only uses a stick and a rake to make his creations.

  4. The Process • Denevan considers process a very important part of his artwork and chooses his locations carefully. Denevan walks for miles, leading his chosen drawing stick in a dance performed to the music of the ocean and the spirit of the place.

  5. Outside His Art • Outside of his crazy art Jim Denevan is a Chef.

  6. Sandman • Filming Began 11/99 • Was Released in late 2005 • Directed by Chelsea Chen • Documentary about Jim and his work.
