Project Background • SCE is proposing to construct The Eldorado-Ivanpah Transmission Project to access new solar generation near the southern California-Nevada border. • The Eldorado-Ivanpah Transmission Project will consist of replacing existing 115 kV line with a new double-circuit 220 kV transmission line, construction of a new 220/115 kV Substation, installation of telecom, and Light & Power to new Substation. • SCE filed an application in May 2009 with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for the Eldorado-Ivanpah Transmission Project.
Project Description Substations • Construction of a new 220/115 kV substation (Ivanpah) approximately 7 miles west of the California/Nevada border in the Ivanpah Dry Lake area. • Ivanpah Substation will serve as a collector hub for the solar generation projects. • Designed to allow up to four 220/115 kV transformers (A-banks) • Initially two 220/115 kV transformers with an SPS • Eldorado Substation • Expand existing switchrack and install two new 220 kV positions at Eldorado Substation to support connection of new transmission lines • Remove existing 220/115 kV transformer bank at end of North 220 kV bus
Project DescriptionTransmission • Removal of approximately 35 miles of the Eldorado leg of the existing Eldorado-Baker-Cool Water-Dunn Siding-Mountain Pass 115 kV line. • Construction of approximately 35 miles of a new double-circuit 230 kV transmission line with bundled 1590 ACSR conductor. • Initially only one side of the double-circuit would be strung to support the first set of generation interconnections request • The new double circuit 220 kV line would be constructed in mostly existing right-of-way. Additional easements may be required due to narrow width of the existing right-of-way along portions of the route and for some line crossings • Re-route remaining portion of Eldorado leg of Cool Water-Baker-Dunn Siding-Mountain Pass 115 kV line into new Ivanpah Substation. • New Baker-Cool Water-Dunn Siding-Mountain Pass-Ivanpah 115kV line
