SALFORD NDC’S COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT STRUCTURES • Partnership Board and Task Groups: 6 Themes. • Community Facilities: Beacon, Sports Village, Healthy Living Centres, Salford Innovation Forum. • Community Centres: St Sebastian’s/Lower Kersal Centre. • 3rd Sector Organisations: CHAP/GEARS+. • Community Groups: In Bloom. • Potential for a rich legacy……………..
2. SALFORD’S APPROACH TO SUCCESSION • Identifying/creating an organisation responsible for physical development. • Working with the City Council’s neighbourhood management structures to influence service delivery. • Create an arrangement that gives local people similar influence to the current NDC Partnership Board. • How will this align community engagement structures?
3. EXPLORING OPTIONS FOR CONTINUING EMPOWERMENT • PULSE Consulting • Researching options for a vehicle for physical change and enabling empowerment: • identifying options, interviewing key stakeholders, organising visits… • Possibilities??…community development trust??…community association?? … subset of an enhanced neighbourhood management structure??...
4. ALIGNING WITH EXISTING AND EMERGING STRUCTURES • Linking with Salford’s neighbourhood management structures. • Influencing Salford’s Neighbourhood Summit in December – NDC key input • Influencing newstructures - Salix Homes (ALMO) is building on the NDC experience. • Influencing the Local Area Agreement - NDC CX is Executive Lead for “Think Neighbourhoods”.
5.REMAINING CHALLENGES TO THE ENGAGEMENT LEGACY • Acceptable/viable stand alone succession vehicle? • Interest in local governance of community facilities? • Viable community centres? • Commissioning opportunities for the 3rd Sector? • Weaning local groups off support • Promoting the legacy of New Deal
