Bus Éireann
Under Transport 21, Bus Éireann is introducing 12 new
vehicles into the Limerick fleet in 2008
The introduction of 9 new low floor buses means that the
Limerick city fleet is now 100% wheelchair accessible
A higher frequency of service will be introduced on a
number of services, such as the Ballycummin route, where a 30 minute frequency is to be introduced later this summer

Other routes which will benefit from improved frequencies are:
Caherdavin – Limerick Institute of Technology - City Centre
University of Limerick - City centre
In order to derive maximum benefit from the new planned services the introduction of some of the improved city services will coincide with the introduction of the proposed Green routes

Two new services are also planned, from Annacotty to the City Centre and Thomond Village to the City Centre. These are scheduled for introduction in autumn 2008
It is also planned to extend the Coonagh Service beyond its current terminus to serve the new Shopping Centre at Coonagh Cross

Limerick is fastest growing rail route in Ireland
835,000 passenger journeys made on Limerick line in 2007 - Increase of 14.5% on 2006
First new Intercity railcars introduced in January – roll out of new stock continues throughout 2008
This will underpin continued growth in passenger numbers

Benefits of new railcars to customers will include:
Significantly higher frequency and capacity on all Intercity routes
Modern on-board comfort standards
The replacement of outdated fleet across the network
Improved accessibility for mobility-impaired customers
Better reliability and performance, with integral engines in each carriage

Iarnród Éireann (continued)
Expansion of Limerick area commuter rail service from 1st September 2008
Nenagh-Limerick services will be expanded to include
commuting options.
New 07.55hrs service will operate from Nenagh to Limerick (serving Birdhill and Castleconnell), with evening returns at 16.45hrs and 17.47hrs

Western Rail Corridor development underway
Direct rail services between Limerick and Galway will begin running in 2009 upon completion of the €106.5 million redevelopment of the Ennis-Athenry line
Renewal of 36 miles of track
Serve Limerick, Ennis, Athenry and Galway
New stations at Sixmilebridge, Gort, Ardrahan, Craughwell, Oranmore, Ennis and Athenry

Provide, with connections, a range of inter-regional services currently not available, through linking with Limerick-Dublin and Galway-Dublin services
Promote balanced regional development, in line with National Spatial Strategy objectives, by linking two Gateways – Limerick and Galway – and serving the hub of Ennis
