What does the rule book say? • The Clerks of Course (Field) with the Field Referee shall ensure that all markings are correct as required by the Rules for Competition, that the take-off boards are clean and firm and landing areas ready for use. • The Clerks shall ensure that all equipment necessary for maintaining runways, circles and landing areas is in a fit state for competition.

  3. What does the rule book say? • The Clerks shall ensure that brooms, rakes, rollers, etc. are available as required and that judges are provided with marking spikes and tapes as necessary. • They are responsible for the provision of implements for practice and competition and must see that all implements are removed from the site of the event as soon as the competition is completed.

BEFORE THE MEETING • Do you need to visit the stadium before the day? • Obtain a timetable • Obtain a Track plan of the Stadium • Contact your chief to ascertain when you should report to the stadium • Plan your day • What equipment is required? • When is it required? • What equipment can I set up before the meeting starts?

  8. On the day of the meeting • Arrive early • Report to administration • Report to your Chief • Locate equipment store • Be alert, keep safe

  9. On the day of the meeting • Walk the Stadium • Familiarise yourself with event sites

  10. Ground Staff • What are they going to do? • Are they experienced? • Do they have a ladder or a cherry picker? • Where can they be found during the meeting?

  11. INITIAL CHECKS • Are Stadium Markings correct according to the rules? • Are throwing cages SAFE to use? • Are take off boards and throwing areas CLEAN AND SAFE? • Are landing areas SAFE AND READY TO USE?

  12. EQUIPMENT CHECK • Is ancillary equipment AVAILABLE? (i.e. Rakes, Brooms, etc.) • Is measuring EQUIPMENT (Tapes etc.) AVAILABLE • Is there EDM? If so WHO is setting it up?

  13. IMPLEMENTS • Have all implements to be used in the competition been CHECKED AND ARE THEY COMPETITION LEGAL (Technical Manager’s Duty if appointed) in conjunction with the Field Referee? • Ensure that ALL IMPLEMENTS ARE TAKEN OUT before the competition AND REMOVED as soon as it is completed.

  14. During the meeting • Ensure all equipment is in the correct place • Ensure event leaders have all they need to run the event • Monitor equipment remains safe to use • Be aware of any health and safety issues • Check event sites are clear of all debris

  15. Stands in good working order • Safe and securely fastened landing area • Spike proof wear cover in good condition • Bars in good condition • Runway in good condition • Box clean and stable POLE VAULT – CHECK (1)

  16. POLE VAULT – CHECK (2) • No hard surfaces or objects within 5m to the front and sides and 7m to the rear of landing area as measured from the centre of the back of the box. Any hard surface should be covered with an impact absorbing material to a critical fall height of 1.5m • That if the landing are is supported on pallets, the sides of the pallets facing the run up are blanked off. • That supporting pallets do not protrude beyond the edges of the landing area

  18. HIGH JUMP – CHECK (1) • Stands in good working order • Safe and securely fastened landing area • Spike proof wear cover in good condition • Bars in good condition • Run up fan in good condition • Kerbing - if removed - safely stored

  19. HIGH JUMP – CHECK (2) • No hard surfaces or objects within 2m of sides and rear of landing area. Any hard surface should be covered with an impact absorbing material to a critical fall height of 1.5m • That if the landing are is supported on pallets, the sides of the pallets facing the run up are blanked off. • That supporting pallets do not protrude beyond the edges of the landing area

HIGH JUMP – SUPPLY • Bars • Runway markers • Scoreboard, securing pegs or weights • Time clock • Windsock • Calibrating device • Red, white and yellow flags • Set of steps or stable platform for officials on 'stand' duty or bar lifters • Brush or 'squeegee‘ • Secured white tape (5cm wide) from 3m outside each stand along the plane of the nearer edge of the stands

LONG JUMP - CHECK • Landing pit well dug (not compacted) • No dangerous extraneous material in pit • Runway in good condition • Firm, stable, take off and insert cover board(s) • No hard obstruction within 12m from centre of take off board. If not so - then arrange for impact absorbing material to be attached to the obstruction • Edges of landing pit are lined with plastic or rubber

  22. LONG JUMP – SUPPLY (1) • No jump plasticine indicator inserts and extra plasticine • Rakes • Brush • Roller • Measuring tape • Spike • Scoreboard, securing pegs or weights • Time clock - 'weighted down’ • Windsock

LONG JUMP – SUPPLY (2) • Runway markers • Wind gauge @ 20m <=2m from runway • Marker for 40m wind gauge start point • Set of red and white flags for wind gauge operator • Distance marker for side of landing pit • Watering can and water • Set of red and white flags • Secured dividing tape for double pit
