This article aims to differentiate the difference between a degree and diploma course so that students have a better understanding of the matter, and join the best college in Kerala.
DEGREE COURSES Universities under the direct control of UGC (University Grants Commission) offer degree courses. Degree courses are often 3 to 4 years of duration, that majorly focus on academics particularly.
A student, who graduated from a UGC approved college can pursue higher education like post-graduation.
Degree courses offer a wide range of subjects in its curriculum that may not be directly related to the major subject of study. For example, B. Tech students in Computer Science may have to study physics and chemistry in their first year as part of a foundation course structure.
Students who have graduated 12th standard are eligible to take degree courses and students with degree courses can opt for the master’s degree.
DIPLOMA COURSES Private and public institutes under the control of AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) offer diploma courses. Diploma courses usually contain 1 or 2 years of course duration, in which students are trained in a particular field. Here practical knowledge weighs more than theories.
After diploma courses, one can enrol for degree courses through a lateral entry or go seeking for jobs. A student with a metric education (10th standard) is eligible to join diploma courses. Whereas a master diploma course would ask for a graduation degree.
