  1. Living With Someone Who Suffers From PTSD

  2. A Life Together with PTSD While it is only natural for people to become withdrawn, or jumpy and anxious because of a traumatic experience, it doesn’t have to stay that way. If such responses continue or even get worse over time, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is almost certainly the cause. According to the US Department of Veteran Affairs, 8% of the population suffers from PTSD at one point in life or another. This translates to 10 percent in the female population and four percent of the male population. If you happen to observe such symptoms in your loved one, seek treatment for PTSD immediately. When left undiagnosed and untreated, PTSD can destroy a person’s mental state and overall well-being. Therefore, make the crucial step towards recovery by going to a PTSD treatment center as soon as you can.

  3. Your Life and PTSD • Individuals suffering from PTSD tend to face difficulty in relating to even their closest friends and family. If your loved one has undiagnosed PTSD (or in other words, you are unaware of his condition), he will often find it hard to communicate with or be close to anyone he used to trust and be open with. Naturally, your response to his inexplicably cold behavior is not very positive as well. In turn, he starts feeling more upset about the situation and thus becomes more reclusive out of fear of further offending anyone. Fortunately, further damage can be avoided and relationships can be restored simply by seeking the necessary treatment for PTSD.

  4. How to help • The first thing you should do, if and when you start noticing tell-tale symptoms of PTSD in someone you love, is to encourage him into seeking medical help. Various PTSD treatment centers specialize in this condition and can thus accurately and expertly address it. They have skilled and experienced PTSD specialists that can help you and your love cope with the disorder.

  5. Although PTSD patients tend to keep to themselves, giving the impression of being cold and not wanting to associate with you, PTSD actually requires a considerable amount of social support. In other words, never give up on your loved even he apparently pushes you away. A little space and understanding will go a long way. Give him space when necessary but don’t ever leave him altogether. Be understanding and forgiving of his vulnerable state and let him feel your support without pushing too hard. While Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder treatment centers are vital, support from family friends remains an essential key to recovery.
