The definition of diversity refers to the existence of different characteristics in a workplace or group of individual. These characteristics can be anything that makes an individual unique from others like our cognitive skills, personality traits and along with the shape, size or identity.

What is Diversity? • The definition of diversity refers to the existence of different characteristics in a workplace or group of individual. These characteristics can be anything that makes an individual unique from others like our cognitive skills, personality traits and along with the shape, size or identity.
For example at a workplace you may met a lot of people of different gender, heights, ages and faiths. Same as in a school there are students of different gender, ages coming from different areas. But the Diversity is much more the race and gender.
What is diversity in the workplace? • At a workplace people have different characteristics like age, gender etc. but there are also some different qualities and characteristics that individuals have: • Experiences • Talents • Skills • Opinions • Personalities • These characteristics also makes people different from each other
What are the types of diversity? • Based on the standard definition of diversity there are seven different types of diversity in the workplace: • Cultural diversity • Racial diversity • Religious diversity
Age diversity • Sex / Gender diversity • Sexual orientation • Disability
Cultural diversity • This type of diversity belong to every person’s family or area. This is a set of norms that we usually get from the family values or the society where we are living in. Having people from different culture is normal in big or multinational companies.
Race diversity • Race has to do a lot with the individual’s grouping on the basis of physical traits. Race is a social construct and not biologically defined. Examples of races are Caucasian, Asian, American, Latino and African.
Religious diversity • You may see people from different religions works at a same place. This type of diversity refers to different people of different religions and beliefs working at a same workplace.
Age diversity • Age diversity is about the working of people different ages or generations at a same workplace. Especially when GenZers and GenXers work at a workplace.
Sex / Gender / Sexual orientation • Sex and gender traditionally known as male and female employees. You may here sometime “Gender balance” used by organizations, they are trying to have a 50-50 balance between the male and female employees. The term “Gender Diversity” will be better as there are many variations in gender and sexual orientations..
Disability • There are many types of disabilities ranging from mental and physical. Companies often make different accommodations to help the disable employees to integrate in the workplace like they installs ramps for the wheelchairs and or provides mental health supports.
