  1. The Bhagwat Gita

  2. Introduction • The Bhagavad-Gita is one of the most ancient religious scriptures of the world. • Bhagwat Gita is one of the eighteen texts of Hinduism written in Sanskrit language. • It was composed by sri Veda Vyasa at the beginning of Kalyuga. It contains the direct message from god.

  3. It contains twelve cantos and shows the supreme path to reach the goal of human existence in Dark Age of Kaliyuga. • The Bhagavad-Gita reveals how anyone can perform ordinary duties in the world and yet remain free from the consequences of one’s actions.

  4. History • The Bhagavadgita is written in the form of a conversation between Krishna and Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra just prior to the start of a climactic Kurukshetra war. • Title of Bhagavad Gita is two Sanskrit words. Bhagavad comes from the word Bhagavan which referrers to the Supreme

  5. Personality of Godhead and ‘gita’ means song. Therefore, it is also known as “Song of The God”. • Veda Vyasa's long duration of life enabled him to write the story of the Fortunate One. He had a son called Sukhadeva who handed the message of this to another member of the family, Emperor Parikchit, who had difficulty respecting the classical wisdom.

  6. This emperor is there as a model for normal people who seek their stability in the wisdom. This knowledge was conveyed by Sukhadev in disciple tradition as devotional service.

  7. Some important speakings of Lord Krishna • Whenever dharma declines and the purpose of life is forgotten, I manifest myself on earth. I am born in every age to protect the good, to destroy evil, and to reestablish dharma. • There are three gates to this self-destructive hell: lust, anger, and greed. Renounce these three.

  8. You have the right to work, but never to the fruit of work. You should never engage in action for the sake of reward, nor should you long for inaction. • No one who does good work will ever come to a bad end, either here or in the world to come.

  9. That one is dear to me who runs not after the pleasant or away from the painful, grieves not, lusts not, but lets things come and go as they happen. • Those who worship other gods with faith and devotion also worship me, Arjuna, even if they do not observe the usual forms. I am the object of all worship, its enjoyer and Lord.
