Alocholic Cardiomyopathy Alcoholic cardiomyopathy is a disorder in which drinking too much alcohol over a long period of time weakens the heart muscle so that it cannot pump blood efficiently. This disease also results in the damage of the center muscular. Subsequent to the direct toxic effects of liquor on muscle, the heart loses the capacity of pumping the blood effectively, leading to cardiac damage.

The treatment of alcoholic cardiomyopathy is mostly aimed at preventing further deterioration and includes: • Medications such as beta blockers, ace inhibitors and diuretics. These drugs will help to reduce the strain on the heart. • Lifestyle changes including complete abstinence from alcohol.
Preventive Measures: Alcoholic cardiomyopathy is a consequence of years of excessive alcohol use. Do not use alcohol in excess. If you drink heavily and find that you cannot cut down or stop drinking, seek help. Control other risk factors for heart disease by maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly. Eat a generally well-balanced, nutritious diet, and avoid smoking.
