Cooking The Story Behind Nairobi Street Kitchen February 23, 2023 From Humble Beginnings to a Thriving Business Nairobi Street Kitchen is a thriving food business that has become a popular destination for food lovers in Kenya's capital city, Nairobi. The business was started by two friends, Samuel and Obed, in 2015, with the aim of providing affordable and delicious food to the masses. The idea behind Nairobi Street Kitchen was born out of a desire to solve a problem. Samuel and Obed had observed that many people in Nairobi, especially those who work in low-income jobs, often did not have access to quality and affordable food. They saw a gap in the market and decided to start a food business that would cater to this demographic. In the beginning, Nairobi Street Kitchen was a small operation that was run out of a food truck. Samuel and Obed would drive the truck around different parts of Nairobi, setting up shop wherever they could find a crowd. They started by selling simple meals such as chapati and beans, but soon expanded their menu to include a variety of dishes inspired by different cuisines from around the world. Despite the challenges that come with running a food business in a city like Nairobi, Samuel and Obed persevered. They worked hard to build a loyal customer base and to establish Nairobi Street Kitchen as a brand that people could trust. They focused on providing quality food at affordable prices and on creating a welcoming atmosphere where customers could enjoy their meals. Their hard work paid off, and Nairobi Street Kitchen soon became a popular destination for people looking for a quick and delicious meal. They began to receive rave reviews on social media, and their customer base continued to grow. In 2017, NSK family opened its first brick-and-mortar restaurant in Nairobi's central business district. The restaurant was a huge success, and Samuel and Obed continued to innovate and expand their menu to include new and exciting dishes. Today, Nairobi Street Kitchen has three branches in Nairobi and employs over 50 people. They continue to be committed to providing quality food at affordable prices, and they have become a beloved institution in the city's food scene. The success of Nairobi Street Kitchen is a testament to the power of hard work, determination, and a willingness to take risks. Samuel and Obed started with very little but were able to build a thriving business through their passion and dedication.
