NRM and Local Government Kym Good General Manager Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board 14 March 2007
Today’s key messages: • We’re open for business • Local Government is our key partner • The Regional Plan will not be business as usual • We would like your feedback on the consultation process
The Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board • Where did we come from? • What is our business? • How are we funded? • Who sits on the AMLR Board?
What are the touch points with Local Government? • NRM Plan and investments in NRM • NRM Levy • Stormwater and flood management • Development Plans • Coast and marine issues • Weed control and remnant vegetation
What does the NRM Regional Plan have to do with Local Government? • It’s a Plan for the Region, not just the AMLR Board • It will define strategic outcomes for NRM in the region • It will guide investments for the next ten years • Partner projects will get priority • A Local Government/NRM Partnership Project is being progressed through the LGA
How will local government get its say? • The Partnership Project at the LGA State Conference • ‘Cluster groups’ of councils will meet with us in May • Community forums will follow in June • Formal consultation on the draft plan will be in Oct/Nov
Cluster groups will focus on: • Outcomes and targets • What we will do, and what we won’t do • Strategies around the five ‘touch points’ • How we will work together
What’s in it for local government? • Role clarification • Shared solutions • Better outcomes • Information sharing • Financial leverage
Yourturn. • Does this consultation framework work for you? • What are you seeking from the NRM Board? • Any questions?
