3. 3 Project Overview Scope: develop a system that will allow states to integrate the SAVE system immigration status verification functionality into their MVA driver license front-line issuance processes via the AAMVAnet TM network
Objective: Mirror SAVE (via Internet) functionality at the data element level for the VLS application users
The Verification of Lawful Status (VLS) System provides a mechanism for the Motor Vehicle Agencies in the United States to verify the lawful status of a non-US citizen. This system allows a Motor Vehicle Agency (MVA) to communicate with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) via the AAMVAnet network for the purpose of verifying an individual’s lawful status.
The key word is ‘integrate’. The SAVE via AAMVAnet option will be seamlessly integrated into the MVA’s existing verification system / terminal. This option will eliminate the need to perform the lawful status verification via the Internet from an adjacent terminal and cross manage two data records.
USCIS Verification Division is responsible for SAVE development and policy

4. 4 Component Architecture(s) VLS is compliant with VIS v1.4 and AHS v1.0
DHS is connected to AAMVAnet with priorities and privileges of a Central Site.
the VLS System allows the MVA to leverage the existing AAMVAnet infrastructure to provide an application-level interface to the SAVE system that more fully integrates the verification process into existing Driver License, Permit and Identification Card issuance processes VLS is compliant with VIS v1.4 and AHS v1.0

6. 6 The initial verification request is an automated process. It is designed to provide a real-time response to the Motor Vehicle Agency (MVA) that either confirms the applicant’s lawful presence or indicates that additional verification steps must be executed before the applicant’s lawful presence can be confirmed
In other situations, one or more validation checks fail when processing the initial inquiry. USCIS provides the Motor Vehicle Agency (MVA) with a one-time opportunity to correct the information in question and resubmit the initial inquiry for processing
