Panda rollouts have become more frequent, so both penalties and recovery now happen faster.
GOOGLE PENGUIN • Launch date: April 24, 2012 • Hazards: Spam or irrelevant links, links with over-optimized anchor text • How it works: The search engine penalizes websites with links of low quality as this is considered a form of spam. The Penguin algorithm rewards websites which have backlinks from verified sources and non-keyword stuffed content.
HUMMINGBIRD • Launch date: August 22, 2013 • Hazards: Keyword stuffing, low-quality content • How it works: Hummingbird considers the context of the different words together, with the goal that pages matching the meaning do better, rather than pages matching just a few words.
