Projects Identifie Projects Identified d In an effort to boost private investment in the highway sector, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has accelerated its efforts by identifying 19 projects with a combined investment of approximately Rs 56,000 crore that it will make available in the build-operate-transfer (BOT-toll) mode. A senior NHAI official stated that these highway projects, which span about 900 km, are dispersed throughout multiple states, including Assam, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana. In Maharashtra, a maximum of 13 such projects will be developed under the BOT (Toll) mode. Contracts for BOT (Toll) projects have longer contracts (15–20 years), and contractors receive their money back from toll. This increases the accountability of the private players for the construction quality. “We have learned a lot from the BOT's (Toll) successes and failures, and the required adjustments are being made to the contract terms to make it profitable for private players.”
