  2. Topics of Discussion • Netiquette • Copyright and Fair Use • Plagiarism • Safety on the Web • Safety on your Computer This presentation I will discuss the importance of correct internet usage and how to protect yourself from the dangers of computer hackers and thieves.

  3. Netiquette Netiquette Examples • Netiquette is a form of using etiquette guidelines for posting messages to online services particularly internet newsgroups. The purpose of this is to ensure people maintain a level of respect in language when communicating to others online. The majority of time netiquette is enforced by fellow users. • Netiquette materials that’s appropriate. • Relationships are complicated with men and women. • Netiquette materials that inappropriate. • Relationships is hard but don’t be gay.

  4. Two Words = One Meaning Etiquette Netiquette • Is the appropriate behavior a person must show in public settings. • Is the appropriate behavior a person must show in dealing with online conversations.

Copyright and Fair Use Copyright Fair Use • Copyright is a form of protection enabled by the U.S. Constitution that grants people with original works or authorship to ensure their work cannot be manipulated without their consent. Copyright covers both published and unpublished works. • Fair Use is an extended version of copyright. It is any use of any copyrighted material or copying done for a limited purpose such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. This can be done without permission from the copyright owner. Fair use analysis fall into two categories commentary and criticism and parody.

  7. Plagiarism Plagiarism is to steal and pass off the ideas or words of another person as your own. To use another person production without crediting the source. The commit literary theft and to present new or original ideas as your own. A basic and common theme is fraud. It is stealing someone’s else work or lying about afterward without giving them credit.

  8. Safety on the Web • Safety is a measures that deals with everyone on the internet. No matter if they are a young child, teenager, or an experienced adult internet is a method for criminals to explore.

  9. No No, No!!!! It is very important that internet users do not display or give information that involves their personal life that could result in identity theft, cyber stalking or other criminal activities.

  10. Safety on your Computer • Computer safety is important because there are several different viruses that can corrupt your computer. Use antivirus software and keep it up to date. Most antivirus software can be configured to do this automatically such as antivirus software and spyware scanners.

  11. Virus • Virus are designed to damage a computer and its software.
